2017 continues with our tradition of Redbones Last Wednesday Monthly Poetry Nights. This month we will be featuring Ras Takura, Kokomo Noid & TIGOX. As always the performances will be followed by an Open Mic where audience participation is encouraged. For those who love Spoken Word, this night is for you!!
Kokumo is a UK based artist, born in the ‘Cock-Pit Country’ of Jamaica. Considered as not just a poet, but a cultural anthropologist and dub-griot who uses his skills as a singer/songwriter to captivate an audience, whilst taking them on a dub-poetical journey. Kokumo’s work appeared in anthologies and online journals, including the late Roi Kwabena’s, “Dialogue – a journal for cultural literacy”, and the ‘Red’ anthology of Contemporary Black British Poets.
RasTakura is a Jamaican Reggae dub poet. He is a recording, performing artiste, farmer and painter. A “Potent, Afrocentric Political Poet with a cause”, his style covers modern issues that need to be brought to the forefront. He was nominated for the International Reggae and World Music (IRAWMA) award in 2011 – Dub Poet of The Year and is founder of the annual ‘Dis Poem ‘Wordz & Agro Festival’. He has toured and performed across the Caribbean and USA.
TIGOX is a poet and writer, born London, England. She came to live in Jamaica in the early 1970s. Inspired by the beauty of the country and its people, she started writing poetry and found that she had the aptitude to write at well. She is a Computer Systems Specialist, a Director of Information Technology at a private High School, and is a freelance computer trainer.
